Orthros and Typhon

Global Changes:

  • Osmose only lowers the chance of it casting Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga during stage 2.
  • You can skip Osmose in Stage 1

Overview

Although both bosses do not have much HP, there will be a lot of things going on and you’ll need to read carefully so as not to trigger the hidden mechanics.

  • You will need a party member with Osmose to reduce the chance of Ultros casting powerful attacks.
  • Although both bosses have their own respective Elemental weakness, attacking them with their elemental weakness will trigger a counter attack.
  • Stick to Wind, Earth, Holy and Dark Elemental Damage.
  • A member that can deal Wind Elemental Damage.
  • A member that can increase the resistance of the team or reduce the damage taken by the team.
  • Bosses will always move first (Preemptive), make sure you have a back up “Resser” if your healer dies first.
  • Take note of the threshold attacks (Ultros at 70/50/30 %).

Strategy

Most of the guides out there suggest taking down Typhon first (during stage 2). I’ll be using them as a basis for this guide.

Stage 1

  • Focus on Team-Buff and Osmose Ultros on Turn 1. Do not attack on turn 1 as it’ll trigger an extra attack.
  • Power and SPR Break is valid and to be used from Turn 2 onwards.
  • Do not drop Ultros HP from above 70% to under 30%  in one round or it will heal to full.
  • At 50% HP, Ultros will enter a Hastened state. During that turn, it will also cast Protect which must be Dispelled.
  • Make sure you clear yourself off any debuffs and top up your HP to full before pushing for Stage 2.

Stage 2

Killing Typhon first

  • Both bosses will start a Preemptive Attack on the team first. Ultros will cast Acid while Typhon will deal a powerful ST attack. Be prepared to res on Turn 1.
  • Turn 1 should be spent on Buffing the team and Osmose on Ultros. Do not Attack or Debuff them.
  • Turn 2 – Keep Power Break on Ultros at all times and start working on Typhon.
  • Typhon is immune to all breaks.
  • Demon Killer is effective.
  • You’ll need to defeat Typhon within 10 rounds so as not to trigger Ultros’ second Acid.
  • Typhon mainly uses Wind/Water/Fire Elemental Magic Attacks, you’ll want to concentrate more on Wind and Water resistance.
  • Whenever Typhon buffs itself (every 4 turns), Players MUST Dispel and use a Wind Elemental Attack in the following turn. If not, Typhon will cast snort which will send 1 party member away from battle. Also, make sure you have at least 2 units that can deal Wind damage in case shit happens to 1 of them during this phase.
  • It’s best to avoid killing Typhon on turn multiples of 3.

Back to Ultros

  • Stage 2 Ultros is almost the same as Stage 1 Ultros.
  • If you had depleted all of Ultros MP during the first 2 turns, it will less likely cast the 3 Elemental skills thus the only Elemental Resistance you should worry from is Earth Resistance (Magnitute 8).
  • It will still cast Magnitude 8 during the 3 threshold HP (70,50,30).
  • Make sure your Power Break is still up at this time.
  • Do not apply any resistance debuffs to Ultros while Typhon is alive. Typhon will respond with a powerful ST attack.
  • This time at 50%, it will buff itself with DEF/SPR buffs which you must dispel.
  • He will no longer cast Curaga in stage 2 but Players are still advised to control your damage go through all 3 threshold stages.

Summary

  • Make sure you keep your DEF/SPR up at all times
  • Do not Attack on turn 1
  • At least 2 Wind attackers
  • The necessary Status Ailment protection; Paralyze, Blind and Poison

  1. Has anyone confirmed if Osmose makes a difference? I’ve seen a couple of GL kill videos where they did not use Osmose at all. I’m wondering if they fixed it so he still does all of his skills regardless of his MP.

    • It helps to lower the chance of it casting Firaga, Blizzaga or Thundaga in Stage 2. You can ignore Osmose in Stage 1.

  2. i just used aeroga and dispeled and he still snorted 3 of my units away… wdf man? waste of 40 energy, what happened?

    • you need to dispel Typhoon Buff and cast wind atk or magic when Typhoon take a breath or buff itself. And i got some info, that sometimes he will cast snort every 4 turn without warning.

  3. Setzer with aquan killer, 3x poach, and second knife dumps on ultros. If you get either of the good numbers on double dice he 3 shots him.

  4. use Setzer with ice brand+second knife, and lasswell as support, deal ice elemental to ‘force’ ultros cast blizzaga , and with barblizzara must active before easy to cheese both typhoon and ultros with 3-5 turn
